Feeding Her Pup Like She Farms Her Food

In the process of making our podcast, Like Farmer, Like Dog, we visited multiple urban farms that care deeply about growing food in a way that's both responsible and sustainable.

"We still don't know that much about the long term effects of pesticides and it's scary," says Emma Gonzalez, farmer and vegan chef at North Brooklyn Farms. To avoid using inorganic chemicals at the community farm, the staff instead uses all-natural alternatives such as a mix of soap and water to keep bugs away from the plants.

Emma takes this same conscientiousness approach around raising crops and cooking food as she does when considering what to feed her lively chihuahua mix, Jam.

"We started her on a fish food, because I was like 'fish is so healthy!'" says Emma, and says she'll also feed Jam an occasional treat of sweet potato purée.

Clearly, Emma knows a thing or two about wholesome ingredients.

Because she cares so much about feeding Jam organic, responsibly-raised food, we brought Emma a bag of Castor & Pollux ORGANIX® Organic Chicken and Oatmeal Recipe, which has free-range, organic chicken as the #1 ingredient and a superfood blend of organic coconut oil, organic flaxseed and organic blueberries.

Packed with so many wholesome ingredients, we’re sure this recipe will keep Jam’s spritely energy up for all of her farm dog duties!
