Feeding the Future
Children's Aid Society
The Children's Aid Society has being helping under-served communities in New York City for 150 years. This week on Feeding the Future, Orianne Cosentino is joined in the studio by Stefania Patinella, the organization's Food & Nutrition Director. Tune in to hear Ori talk about instilling healthy snacking habits into children, and why it's alright to splurge on treats every once and a while. Later, hear about the history of the Children's Aid Society, and how Stefania combines health and food justice curriculum for the students involved in the Children's Aid Society. Learn the differences between 'go' foods and 'slow' foods. Hear how Stefania's programs teach children to examine food labels for nutrition facts, and advertisements to promote conscious consumption. Later, hear some music created by some of the kids from Children's Aid Society! Thanks to our sponsor, Brooklyn Slate Company. Thanks to takstar for today's music.
"The goal of the Children's Aid Society is to get kids, particularly those in poverty, to get to college and succeed in life. How does food play into this? Well, you need to be healthy to be successful." [11:45]
