We spoke with Michael Harlan Turkell, photographer and
HRN Host of The Food Seen, about his volunteer work with the Red
Hook Initiatives to collect donations and distribute them to the local
community as well as other neighborhoods in need. Michael has also
been helping local businesses to photograph the damage post Sandy
for insurance means.

“You are seeing people’s life and livelihoods bagged up and
thrown away. I’ve seen a lot. Unfortunately I don’t think enough of it
is being seen in the media. We are seeing these flyovers of complete
devastation. There are personal stories all around us. Within the
walls, not just the exterior.”–Michael Harlan Turkell
