Salmon fishing in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska is an industry that supports the lives of many and provides the country with, arguably one of the most sustainable wild food sources on the planet. However this industry is now facing a serious threat, one that Heritage Radio Network has covered since it was first brought to public attention. Our very own executive director Erin Fairbanks attended the premier of a new film titled "The Breach," which highlights the threat of a copper mining project know as pebble. This project has the potential to cause irreversible damage to the salmon spawning grounds of bristol bay. Erin interviewed many of the people directly affected by the diminishing salmon population, the fishing community and residents of Alaska alike speak to the shocking truth of the film.
