While most of us would like to picture a breeding sow’s life to be like that in the movie Babe, in reality many sows spend their lives in a space barely larger than their bodies. The good news, however, is that things are starting to change. Barry Estabrook, author of Pig Tales: An Omnivore’s Quest for Sustainable Meat, explores theses changes and what they mean for pigs and for the people eating them.
