Food writer Jenny Linford has long been fascinated by cheese. Her book Great British Cheeses (Dorling Kindersley, 2008) was seminal in being the first fully-illustrated guide to British cheeses. It inspired many now working as cheesemakers or cheesemongers. In April 2020 – having realised that with the closure of hospitality Britain’s cheesemakers were facing a crisis – she wrote a piece called The British Cheese Crisis for her own website and shared it on Twitter. Described by Rachel Cooke in The Observer in May as a “rallying cry”, Jenny’s call to get people to buy cheese, had a remarkable response.
Jenny Linford is the author of over 20 books. Her critically acclaimed book The Missing Ingredient – the Curious Role of Time in Food and Flavour, was described by Marina O’Loughlin, the Sunday Times restaurant reviewer, as ‘a treatise on the single most vital and most overlooked element of food and cooking that’s as page-turning as a thriller.’
