Ever hear of beta-agonists? If you haven’t, you’re not alone. That’s probably because until very recently the USDA prohibited labeling of this category of drugs widespread in meat production. Dr. Urvashi Rangan from Consumer Reports considers this “one of the more damning things” about the U.S. meat industry. Dutiful consumers pledging to buy hormone- and antibiotic-free have been repeatedly duped into supporting drugged meat by lack of adequate labeling.
