Heritage Radio Network is packing up the mics and bringing the team down south. Next week, March 3-5, our team will be broadcasting live for the second year in a row from Charleston Wine + Food . We’ll be posted up in the HRN teepee in the Culinary Village, chatting, grilling, and playing games with chefs young and established, and bartenders, brewers, and vintners too. If you’ll be at the fest, stop by and say hi! On Sunday afternoon, come by and test your local knowledge with a heated Charleston trivia game. And if a trip Down South isn’t in the cards– you know where to tune in– right here on HeritageRadioNetwork.com.
To whet your appetites (and ears) we’re excited to share some highlights of our scheduled conversations and interviews below, and there’s much more to come!
Friday, March 3
We’ll be kicking off the weekend Friday at noon with chefs Jason Vincent and Ben Lustbader of Giant in Chicago. We’ll hang with the friends and business partners to discuss their path to creating Giant, a rare spot that succeeds in being both a neighborhood destination and one that turns out consistently honest, creative, and approachable cuisine.
At 1pm, we’ll be joined by two young food entrepreneurs to discuss the unique paths to their careers and their common thread: they are both second generation immigrants. We are excited to speak with female biodynamic winemaker Tahmiene Momtazi of Maysara Vineyard in Willamette Valley, daughter of Iranian immigrant parents, and twenty-four-year-old truffle hunter and newly published author Ian Purkayastha, son of an Indian father from Tamil Nadu and a mother who is a “white-bread Texan from Huntsville.”
Next, Chef Steven Satterfield of four-time James Beard nominated Miller Union in Atlanta will speak with host and a fellow chef-owner himself, Robert Newton. We’re sure the two will have plenty to discuss!
At 3, Radio Cherry Bombe’s Kerry Diamond will get to talk with Ruth Reichl, and—shocker— we can’t wait. Joining Reichl will be rising star Chef Mashama Bailey of The Grey in Savannah and Seattle powerhouse Chef Renee Erickson of The Walrus and the Carpenter, The Whale Wins, Barnacle, and more.
To wrap the day time activities up, we’ll be grillin’ and chillin’ at the Big Green Egg BBQ + Wine Party with The Grape Nation host Sam Benrubi. He’ll be joined by winemaker Robert Sinskey, Matt Tunstall, owner of Stems & Skins, Chef Carey Bringle of Peg Leg Porker, and Chef Blake Hartwick of Bonterra Dining and Wine Room. Come by or tune in to hear BBQ secrets from the South’s best pitmasters, and get some ideas of how you can pair vino with grilled meats.
We couldn’t be more excited to get down to Charleston. Learning from our inspiring guests, chatting with fest-goers, eating killer bites, and hanging with a motley crew of good food movement soldiers, we know we’ll be in our happy place, and we hope you’ll join us. Tune in!
