Fatima didn’t have a flagship restaurant, or a long legacy of advocacy work because—as we all know too well—her life was cut tragically short by cancer in January 2019. But she deserves a place in this Hall of Fame because, in the time she had, she exemplified the character traits that make up the best professional chefs. She was devoted to learning, quality and camaraderie. She gained a fan following on season 15 of Top Chef, then showed us all how to confront the ultimate challenge, with dignity and grace. Her message of “don’t wait” to make things happen for yourself is one that anybody can take to heart. Rest in peace.
