Paw-fect Holiday Traditions

The holiday season is full of great food, parties, family time, and ugly sweaters—and not just for people! We love including our pets in our seasonal celebrations, so we asked our HRN community to share some of the holiday traditions they share with their pets. They're sure to get a round of appawse!

Canine Cooking

HRN Listener (and guest on HRN Happy Hour) Amy Lipman makes sure her dog Cassie Rose is part of the Hanukkah feast. She cooks her a special dog-friendly latke! Homemade biscuits in holiday shapes are another fun way to make your pet something tasty. Just make sure you don’t mix them up with the sugar cookies.

Stocking Stuffers

If you have a stocking hung for your dog on the mantle, why not make it one they’ll love? A bag of Castor & Pollux Pristine Grain-Free Grass Fed Chicken Recipe Sausages is the perfect stocking stuffer! Baxter, the star of the second episode of Like Farmer, Like Dog, loves the treats that his mom, Erica Harte, gave him.

Seasonal Sweaters

Cynthia Cherish Malaran (aka DJ CherishTheLuv), host of Wedding Cake on HRN, has a great Christmas outfit, and she makes sure that her pup Tonka is well-coordinated in her Santa suit. If your dog gets chilly, ugly sweaters are a cute (and cozy) solution. Not into outfits? Seasonal collars are a great way to celebrate, too!

Snowball Fights

Tonka loves the snow, and has her own tradition of eating falling snowflakes. Why not leave the tennis ball at home and play fetch with snowballs? If your pup isn’t great at the return part of fetch, you can just grab another handful of snow and try again!

Quality Time

More than anything else, the holiday season is perfect for slowing down, relaxing, and spending time with the ones you love. So snuggle up near the fire, paws and reflect, and share some quality time with your pup. We bet it will be their favorite gift of all!
