Everything's on the Table
Urban Agriculture
This week on Everything's On The Table, host Erin Fairbanks welcomes co-host Tatiana Orlov of the Food Systems Network, where she is on the Leadership Committee. Together they welcome Cara Chard, director of CityGrowers.org, who is in the studio to talk about Brooklyn Grange, an urban rooftop farm located in New York City that produces and grows over 40,000 lbs of organically-cultivated produce per year. In addition to growing and distributing fresh local vegetables and herbs, Brooklyn Grange also provides urban farming and green roof consulting, and partners with numerous non-profit organizations to promote healthy and strong local communities. Cara also talks about educating the youth with urban agriculture, and how she works with children to lead the way in health and sustainability. Later on, Tatiana welcomes Steve Ritz, teacher and administrator in the South Bronx, where he and his kids grow lush gardens for food, greenery, and jobs. He is also the founder of the Green Bronx Machine, which aims to change the mind-sets and landscapes of America by being resourceful, re-using, and recycling their way into new and healthy ways of living. Tune-in to learn more about urban agriculture, and what these amazing organizations are working towards in your neighborhood! This program has been sponsored by HeritageRadioNetwork.org.
"Every single building has a roof, and so few of them are being used. We're trying to think of how these roofs can benefit so many residents." [14:05]

"The more we continue to have success, the more the needle is going to push in our direction. The community gardens are helping to reduce crime, and that's changing communities!" [37:10]
