Michael Kideckel is a history teacher at The Hewitt School in Manhattan. He teaches students about U.S. history, geography, and food politics. He received his Ph.D in history from Columbia University in 2018. His dissertation, Fresh from the Factory: Breakfast Cereal, Natural Food, and the Business of Reform, 1890-1920, received the 2019 Bancroft Dissertation Award. His most recent essay, “Anti-Intellectualism and Natural Food: The Shared Language of Industry and Activists in American since 1830,” appeared in the February 2018 issue of Gastronomica.
