Remembering Pete Seeger
Pete Seeger - American singer, songwriter, activist, & folklorist - passed away on January 27th, 2014 at the age of 94 at New York Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. Seeger enjoyed a storied career in music, topping the Billboard Best Seller charts with the Weavers in 1950 with a cover of Leadbelly's 'Goodnight, Irene'. Seeger was also outspoken concerning American politics, making the news in the early 1950s because of his ties to the Communist Party, and more recently for performing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for Barack Obama's inauguration. But Seeger was also an environmentalist, dedicating himself to raising awareness and the cleanup of one of New York City's most iconic and important tributaries - the Hudson River.
